The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support line does not need you to walk them through your own machine to close a case that is already official.
“The senior man said a window was closing and was asked whether the back bedroom one still stuck.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming seniority makes the caller seem more credible and harder to question, and the pressure to focus stops the person from pausing to check.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on their official line.
Offering to look at the computer feels helpful and quick, so the victim focuses on the two minutes rather than on handing over control.
Real company: A real support team never asks to connect to your computer from an unexpected call. You call them, not the other way round.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
