The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
Anyone who wants to look inside your computer from their end is not from any company you called.
“The senior man wanted a look inside the machine and Bernard offered him the lane, the coal man and a bit of supper.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A fresh, more senior voice resets the conversation and makes the demand feel like an escalation you should obey.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on your own.
A deadline plus a vague technical problem makes people act fast before they think to check.
Real company: A real support team states the issue in writing and lets you verify it at your own pace.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
