The Supervisor Hand-Off

The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real company will not cold-call you and ask to look at your computer remotely, so treat any such request as a scam.
“The senior technician asked to look at the machine from where it sits, and Bernard offered to hold it up to the window.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming seniority makes the listener feel the matter is serious and that a real expert is now in charge.
Real company: A real support team identifies itself clearly and lets you call back on a number you look up yourself.
A new, more senior voice feels like a promotion of your case, so people relax and stop questioning the request.
Real company: A real support team gives you a ticket number and a number you can call back, not a sudden senior who needs into your machine.
A rush makes people skip the obvious question of who is actually calling.
Real company: A real support team never phones out of the blue and never needs to hurry you into letting them in.
Asking to connect first keeps the target from pausing to check whether the call is real.
Real company: A real support team never connects to your machine from an unexpected call, and will tell you how to reach them yourself.
It sounds like a harmless glance rather than control of the machine, so the victim lowers their guard.
Real company: A real support team explains the fix and lets you decide, and never needs to reach into your device.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
