The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support line will not insist it must see your screen before it can say what is wrong.
“The caller said the case sat with him until he had a look, and Bernard offered him a cup of something warm instead.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming senior status makes the caller sound official and resets any doubts raised earlier.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on their official line.
Offering to look at the screen feels like a favour, and the hint of spreading faults makes waiting feel risky.
Real company: A real provider never asks to view your screen, and it contacts you in writing about known faults.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
