Call #702 · 2026-10-25
The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A supervisor who takes over your case still has to prove the case exists before you let anyone near your machine.
“The supervisor took over the case and asked for a look at the machine, then said he would send it in the post instead.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming seniority feels more credible, so people relax and stop questioning the call.
Real company: A real support team confirms your case number and lets you call back on a published number.
A new voice claiming seniority resets the conversation and makes Bernard feel he is finally being taken seriously.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and calls back on a number you can verify yourself.
A sudden worry about the connection makes the person anxious to stay on the line and answer quickly.
Real company: A real support agent would simply carry on, or offer to call back on a number you already trust.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
