The Supervisor Hand-Off
No real support desk needs remote access to your computer to fix a problem you did not report.
“The caller asked for remote access four times and never got past the biscuit tin.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new, more senior voice sounds official and makes the request feel like a routine step rather than a favour.
Real company: A real support firm gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on their official line.
A higher title and a closing window make the request feel official and time-limited, so people agree before thinking.
Real company: A real support team books a time, gives a reference number, and never rushes you to beat a shift change.
A deadline plus the threat of losing help pushes people to act before they can think it through.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a callback, and never warns that your case will vanish.
A deadline and a promise of a quick fix push the person to hand over access before they can think it through.
Real company: A real IT or security team books a visit or sends written instructions, and never asks to take remote control of your device on a cold call.
Asking for access while promising it is quick and harmless lowers the listener's guard and rushes the decision.
Real company: A real support team explains the problem in writing and never needs to control your device to look at it.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
