Call #557 · 2026-10-24
The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A sudden promotion to a senior technician is a script change, not a promotion for you.
“The senior man took over the call and asked twice for a look inside, and Bernard asked whether the set was poorly and went for his reading glasses.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A senior title and a fresh start make the caller sound more capable, so you trust the new voice more than the last one.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and tells you the ticket number, not a job title and an apology.
A new, more senior voice feels reassuring, so the target relaxes just as the real request arrives.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and asks you to call back on the number printed on your bill or website.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
