Call #422 · 2026-10-22
The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support line never needs to be let into your machine before you have asked it anything, and a deadline is a reason to hang up, not to hurry.
“The caller asked to be let through to the machine, and Bernard asked how he took his drink and said the light in this house was terrible.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A title and a case file make the caller sound official, and a closing window pushes you to act before you think.
Real company: A real support team gives you a ticket number and a number you can call back on their official site.
A made-up deadline and a vague authority figure make Bernard feel the matter is already serious and half-decided.
Real company: A real support team names itself clearly, explains the issue in writing, and never asks to view your screen on a cold call.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
