The Supervisor Hand-Off

The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real company never needs remote access to your computer to fix an alert it phoned you about.
“He asked twice to look at the machine, and twice Bernard offered him tea instead.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new, more senior voice feels like escalation and care, so people relax and stop questioning the story.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and contacts you through channels you can verify yourself.
A new, more senior voice feels like escalation and care, so people relax and stop questioning the earlier steps.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and tells you how to reach them through official channels, not by a fresh caller taking over.
A looming deadline and vague threat of worse damage push the person to act before they can think it through.
Real company: A real support team states the issue plainly and lets you choose when to act, with no scare deadline.
It frames access as a harmless quick look, so the victim lowers their guard and hands over control without thinking.
Real company: A real support team never asks to connect to your device from an unsolicited call, and would tell you to call the number on your bill.
Asking to be let into the computer is dressed up as a small favour, so the listener focuses on being helpful rather than on what access means.
Real company: A real support team never asks to connect to your machine from a cold call, and will point you to official contact details instead.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
