Call #377 · 2026-10-22
The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support desk can work on your computer without ever asking to come in through your screen.
“The caller said the machine might be ringing people up on its own, and Bernard asked what it would have to do for this look.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A title and a promotion story make the caller sound more qualified, so people lower their guard and comply.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on their official line.
Pushing a deadline makes the target skip careful thought and hand over control to stop the imagined harm.
Real company: A real support team never rushes you and never needs to look inside your computer to fix an account issue.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
