The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support desk will wait while you find a pencil, so urgency and a refusal to wait are the tell.
“The senior one pressed the hour, and Bernard offered a pencil, and the call ended at the offer.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A job title and a vague company name make the caller sound official and worth obeying.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back yourself.
A tight deadline makes people act fast and stop checking, and a new voice feels like a fresh authority taking over.
Real company: A real bank or service never imposes a minutes-long deadline to lock your accounts, and it puts concerns in writing.
A short countdown makes the request feel routine and small, so the person focuses on ending the problem rather than on what they are handing over.
Real company: A real bank or service never needs to look inside your device, and it will happily wait while you check through official channels.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
