The Supervisor Hand-Off
A title like senior technician is not proof of anything, and a real one will not need to be let onto your machine to prove it.
“The senior one asked to be let onto the machine in the front room and Bernard asked what colour it would come in.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A fresh, senior-sounding voice resets the conversation and makes Bernard re-explain himself to someone who seems more important.
Real company: A real support team keeps a record of the case and picks up where the last person left off, without asking you to start again.
Claiming to be the person who can fix things builds trust and makes the victim feel they must cooperate with this one helpful figure.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on your own, and never asks to look at your computer uninvited.
A ticking clock and the threat of a bad record push the person to act fast instead of thinking it through.
Real company: A real support team gives you time and a reference number, and never rushes you to decide on the spot.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
