The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real technician never needs to look at your machine from their end, and a deadline is not a reason to let them.
“The senior technician wanted a look down the wire and Bernard asked whether it needed a password off him.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming seniority feels like escalation and care, so people relax and repeat private details they already shared.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and reads the notes, so you never have to repeat your story to a stranger.
A new, more senior voice sounds like real help arriving, which lowers the victim's guard before a request for access.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and calls back on a number you can verify yourself.
A deadline plus a higher-ranking expert makes Bernard feel the chance is slipping away and that refusing would be foolish.
Real company: A real support team books a clear appointment and never treats a clock as a reason to skip proper checks.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
