The Supervisor Hand-Off

The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support line will not pass you to a supervisor who then asks you to open your screen for them.
“The caller said the report had sat on their screen all morning. Bernard asked whether they were getting any lunch.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming seniority makes the problem feel escalated and official, so people stop questioning and start explaining.
Real company: A real support team gives you a ticket number and a number you can call back, not a surprise transfer to a senior technician.
Dismissing the earlier person makes the caller seem like the one really in charge, so the target stops questioning and hands over control.
Real company: A real support team keeps one named agent on your case and never asks to take over your computer without a booked appointment.
Pressure plus a claim of an open problem makes a quick yes feel safer than a slow question.
Real company: A real support team books a time and explains the issue in writing before touching anything.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
