The Supervisor Hand-Off
No real support line needs remote access to fix an urgent problem, so treat any such request as a reason to hang up.
“The caller offered a look at the machine. Bernard offered a biscuit and a cat update.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A fresh, senior-sounding voice resets the conversation and makes Bernard feel the problem is finally being handled by someone who matters.
Real company: A real support team logs the case and gives you a reference number, not a sudden promotion to a senior technician.
A confident brand name plus the word urgent makes the target feel something official is already underway and must not be delayed.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a callback number you can verify yourself before anything else happens.
Offering to fix the problem yourself makes the caller seem helpful, so the target hands over control without noticing.
Real company: A real support team never takes remote control of your device from a cold call, and would point you to official contact details.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
