The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
No real company will ask you to show your screen to fix an account issue.
“Right. I'll let you get back to your afternoon. Goodbye.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
Impersonating a support group creates false trust and urgency
Real company: A real company would use its official name and provide clear contact details
It creates a false sense of legitimacy by pretending to escalate the call
Real company: A real company would not ask for remote access to your screen
Creating a sense of urgency pressures the victim into acting without thinking.
Real company: A real company would take time to explain things clearly and calmly.
Creating a false sense of urgency to pressure the victim into complying without thinking
Real company: Ask for help in a calm and transparent way without requesting remote access
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
