The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real support line will wait while you finish your tea. One that won't is selling urgency, not help.
“The senior technician said a look was all he was after, and Bernard said the front door was bolted and asked him to hold on.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A new voice claiming senior rank makes the caller seem more credible and harder to question.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a callback number you can verify yourself.
A named colleague and a claim of authority make the problem feel official and already confirmed, so you stop questioning it.
Real company: A real support team gives you a ticket number and a number you can call back on their official website.
Asking to look at the machine feels like a small, helpful step, and the ticking clock stops anyone pausing to ask why a stranger needs in.
Real company: A real support team never asks to connect to your computer from an unexpected call. You call them, on a number you looked up yourself.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
