The Supervisor Hand-Off
phone call · Vantage Support Group · invented, like everything else here.
In real life: hang up. Nobody in this call can be followed as instructions. If a stranger rings and wants access to your computer, put the phone down and read the Help page, which is the part that is true.
The Supervisor Hand-Off
A real company will not claim a deadline today to rush you into granting access to your machine.
“The senior one cited a deadline of today, and the man offered him the better light in the kitchen instead.”
The call
Oldest line at the top. The note beside each caller line is the Fraud Desk.
A senior title and a hand-off make the caller sound vetted and important, so people lower their guard.
Real company: A real support team gives you a reference number and a number you can call back on their official line.
A calm senior voice offering to fix things personally makes the request feel official and safe.
Real company: A real bank never asks to look at your computer, and would tell you to call the number on your card.
What the pattern is
The hand-off is theatre. The new voice is the same operation, often the same room, and the promotion exists only to make the request sound checked and approved. A real escalation adds a reference number and a way for you to ring back on a number you already trust; it does not add a more confident voice and a fresh demand for access.
What to do instead
Being transferred to someone senior is not evidence of anything. Ask for a reference number and ring the company back on a number from its own website, not one read out to you. If the number they give cannot be found anywhere else, that is the answer.
